As I already wrote yesterday there is currently a great new festival underway in Tralee. Although I was quite sure that the Kerry Bicycle Festival was going to be a success at the time I wrote it I didn’t know any of the guys who organized it then, nor had I visited any of the events so far. I had the chance to change that fact yesterday evening as well as today and it turned out to be great fun indeed. [»]

I almost forgot this important date, but fortunately I did not and so it’s not too late to promote it now: the inaugural Kerry Bicycle Festival is about to start tonight, and I hope many will follow. As a biker (the picture shows my own bicycle on a beach in Fenit) I think it’s about time to encourage more people to enjoy cycling as a great way of not simply getting from one point to another but also to have a lot of fun in between. Today I found the time to visit the small but interesting Tralee-development-exhibition which is currently underway in the Kerry County Library in Tralee.

Besides the orginal and almost 400 years old town charter document from 1612 there is an interesting video documentation about the history of the town on display, as well as some maps and posters regarding planned development steps for the years to come. The purpose of this exhibition is to encourage the people of Tralee to actively participate in the development of the town and to make their proposals and ideas heard before the new town development plan is being finalised. Today there is obviously still some work to do at ice rink specially prepared for the “Tralee on Ice” venue on the aquadoma-carpark. But it looks like the really big tent will be finished just in time for the opening next saturday, december 1st.  The skating rink will then be open till january 6th, 2008.
