The Tralee Blog

It’s the quiet time of the year, so there is not so much to write about Tralee right now. But the town is not sleeping, a lot of work is currently been done to prepare all for the next tourist season. Some pictures:

Not many people will have noticed that there were construction works going on at Kerry General Hospital in Tralee. And that is fortunate, because if they had noticed it might have been because they were seriously ill. So the new helipad at Kerry General is one of the few structures that will hopefully not have to be used too often in the future. But it’s good to know that injured or seriously ill patients can reach the hospital now very fast again.  

(The landing facility is mainly used by the coastguard, although the picture shows an Agusta Westland AW139 helicopter of the Irish Air Corps.)

With St. Patrick’s Day only a few days ahead and the tourist season approaching fast there is still a lot left to do in the town. The refurbishment of the town park however is almost finished, and the construction of the new ”Tranquility Fountain” made great progress over the past days (see picture).   

Less than three months after the opening of the new eight screen omniplex next to the Aqua Dome the picture to the right shows what once was the old four screen cinema, which had been situated between Siamsa Tire and The Square opposite the huge (but still mainly empty) Galeria building. As you can see there is nothing left but a pile of debris. [»]

…is growing in the centre of the town. The new Penneys Superstore (Castle Street) which was announced for opening in spring 2008 is now set to start trading as early as december. The scale of the completely new building will be somewhat greater than the size of the shop front might suggest. [»]
