I guess I was one of the lucky people to actually ride behind No.5T in 1999. We were on holiday at Dingle, visited the Tralee site and found out she was booked to run a group charter that week, so we came back for the ride. Guzzi

Hi Richard, actually there was no operation after the 2009 summer season. After 5T was wfu in summer 2006 the track lay idle 2007, 2008 and then again 2010 and 2011. And despite plans to have the loco finally restored for next years season I have to say that I will believe that when I see it...

So the railway ran in 2009 and 2010 - did it run in 2011?

i wish you well, but few of you seem yo realise the costs of maintaining any loco. we live alongside the Ffestiniog, who have had adeal of trouble with diesels.[spare parts] steam locos have to have tubeplates; tubes;all stays replaced every 10 years. i would think a talk with FR and also the Talyllyn, should be pretty well an urgent need. borrow some of both raiways news magazines. if you leave what remains outside, it will only go for scrap, sorry folks.
Thanks Andrew,
that's nice to hear. I took a short stroll to the shed last sunday while visiting Blennerville Farmers Market and found it locked. I would have thought that this Bank Holiday weekend would have been a good occasion to have the train running, but better late than never.
Best wishes,
Holger

I was working with a crew removing the Dingle railway and loading it onto trains in Castlemaine railway station for construction of buildings in England in the years of 1956 & 57
Our foreman was Tom Hurley ,Station Master at Rathpooke Milltown , one of my co-workers still lives in the area on the Milltown - Castlemaine road ,lives across the road from Flynn,s Funeral Home,
We worked for 5 Pounds per week five and a half days per week , Five men lifting 30 foot rails , 30 pounds per foot, no gloves ,
My daughter gave me a book on the history of the Dingle railway and also a
black & white picture of the train itself.

Great to see the T&DLR are back on track, the wee diesel from the West Clare is a great little loco, anyone any idea when she arrived on the line. Incidetally i was on one of the last trains of the season back in, i think 2006, when the Bord Na Mona loaned the line one of there Hunslet diesels, i think it was on the line once before that. Either way diesel is better than no train at all, but i do hope 5T will steam on the line one day.

Thanks to you all.
